How do you know if tango is for you?
> Tango is for everbody, no matter the age, size and origin
Whether you are young or old, tiny or tall, manager or unemployed… the tango dancers will welcome and embrace you. In the Brussels’ tango community we don’t judge anybody’s origin, the language one (doesn’t) speak, the job, study titles or social standing. You are welcome just like you are, as long as you are polite and show respect.
> Tango is an ideal activity for singles and couples
If you are in a relationship you can share the tango passion that will bring you closer together and teach you to deeply connect, trust and improve your relationship. If you are single or new in town, in the tango class you will meet dancing partners and make many new friends.
> Or do you believe that you don’t hear the beat or have 2 left feet?
Tango is based on stepping and walking. No previous dancing experience is required. If you can walk, you can learn to dance tango! Tango can be danced to melody or rhythm and you can suspend each movement over several beats, so the musical interpretation is very free.
What benefits to expect from learning tango?
> Dancing makes you happy
Engaging in tango can release endorphins, the “feel-good” hormones, reducing stress and promoting relaxation. The immersive melodic and rhythmic experience of dancing Tango allows individuals to escape from daily pressures and experience moments of blissful serenity.
> Dancing tango is good for body, mind & soul
Unlike many other dances, Tango is more of an expressive storytelling than a fast rebounding on rhythm. No matter your skill or level, you will find success and growth in tango as you learn to connect and communicate with your partner and develop awareness of your own body.
> Tango develops your intelligence, it is like learning a new language
Like any language, tango has its own alphabet, vocabulary, grammar and composition. The body parts are used as the alphabet. We use them to create movements and steps, which are the vocabulary of tango. Musicality and communication are the grammar, according to which steps are improvised to form a dance. Dancing together establishes a dialogue between 2 people. Tango shows are storytellers, poems or lyrics. Choreography is the composition of the dance.
> Tango opens social doors
The social life of a tango dancer can be a busy one, if you want it to be. You will meet a whole new group of friends, from the initial dance classes and practice sessions, to the organised tango events, parties and milongas, there will always be plenty of opportunities for social events. If you travel you can join tango marathons, festivals and encuentros all over the world, to connect and dance with other tango dancers, even if you don’t speak their language.
